The plague is ignorance.

All good things come from 'god', but all bad things are your own fault. Don't be concerned, let 'god' handle your problems. Don't think, let 'god' take care of everything. It's all part of 'god's plan'. Lay all your problems at 'god's' feet. 'God' works in mysterious ways. 'God' is beyond our understanding. 'God' is love.

Somehow, the above self-contradictory summary makes sense to some people. I'm not one of those people.

We are a plague upon the face of the earth. My daughter hates it when I say that, hahaha. Really though, we have been destroying ecosystems for construction or farmland since we learned how. We have created oases where there was only desert. We have poisoned water and air and land with our noxious discharges. We have stolen habitat from other life forms so that many no longer exist, and many more are teetering on the brink of extinction, thanks to us. We have done this and worse in the name of "progress". So much "progress" that the rate of climate change since 1900 has increased a hundred-fold over the rate of increase over the previous 1000 years. Yet we are the only ones who can address these world-wide problems. They're not "challenges" as some would have you believe. They are dire, life-threatening problems... yes, human life (since only human life seems to be important to some of us). Some of us glibly say it's the weather, it's always been the weather in spite of evidence of global climate change. Our atmosphere protects us from the most harmful radiation from the sun. If our atmosphere can no longer protect us, or not as well protect us, what will we do? Will we move underground? People who choose to remain ignorant, who choose to not think, who choose to not do, who pretend 'god' will handle it are holding us all back. I hate that.
