Bible Thoughts

Hello Thursday 18 Feb. I usually call this day of the week Thoughtful Thursday.  I was thinking, wondering why 'christians' accept bible stories 'on faith'. Have you ever wondered why bible god doesn't want you to think or question? Not only doesn't want you to question, but actively discourages knowledge, wisdom, or fact-finding. Instead, this 'god' encourages being child-like (or sheep-like)? What is one thing we can all agree on about being a child? A child will believe what they're told because their rational mind is not yet developed. We develop critical thinking skills as we grow. The bible 'god' discourages intellect and free thought and tries to confuse us. 1 Corinthians KJV: 1:19 - "For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent."; 1:27 - "But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise, and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;"; 4:10 - "We are fools for Christ's sake, but ye are wise in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye are honourable, but we are despised."; Matthew 18:3 (KJV) - "And he said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven." There's at least one about 'lean not on your own understanding', too. Why would anyone encourage you to not think? Hmm, maybe because what they're telling you wouldn't make sense if you thought about it? Think not for tomorrow because you're worth more than a sparrow and your god will take care of you like he does the sparrow. Ok, right! Tell that to your grocer and landlord, LOL.

Christians often ask non-believers about morals. I find that a little bit scary, don't you? If not for the 'god commands' as written in the bible, these people say they would murder or steal, all willy-nilly? I don't think they would, but if they admit they would not they are admitting their morals don't come from their god or their bible. Hmm, a dilemma for them, I guess?

I like the bible stories for their mythology. Some are comedies, like the book of Matthew's zombies, LOL. You can trace the evolution of some of the now doctrines through the story-telling in the bible. The evolution of death (done once you're buried) and 'hell' from a waste pit (gehenna) to a fiery pit of eternal torture. 'Hell' had to be expanded to offset the ever-evolving promise of 'heaven'. As it's described in the 'Christian Doctrine', I think 'eternity' is too long to enjoy anything. It's bound to get boring. Notice how there's no differentiation between heaven or hell? How long do you think you would enjoy watching your friends, neighbors, even family suffer the promised torments of hell?
